Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims decrease to 234,000

The DOL reported:
In the week ending February 4, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 234,000, a decrease of 12,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 246,000. The 4-week moving average was 244,250, a decrease of 3,750 from the previous week's unrevised average of 248,000. This is the lowest level for this average since November 3, 1973 when it was 244,000.

The dashed line on the graph is the current 4-week average. The four-week average of weekly unemployment claims decreased to 244,250.

This was below the consensus forecast.

The low level of claims suggests relatively few layoffs.

  3. It is sadly becoming a case of more jobs versus better jobs. I see no way to achieve both.

    Josap and Outsider would be welcome and a welcome addition to EN. Nobody gets called names just for having an opinion or observation.
